The ParentsTogether community accomplished so much together in 2025! Alongside our inspiring network of parents and advocates, we secured some major victories for families and kids this year. Here’s what we accomplished together in 2025—
- We demanded accountability from AI companies: ParentsTogether Action, with the Heat Initiative, released a groundbreaking study that revealed that Character.ai chatbots engaged in harmful interactions with child accounts an average of once every five minutes. Nearly 10,000 members signed our petition asking Disney to have their characters removed from Character.ai, and Disney immediately sent a cease and desist letter to the company. Character.ai complied, then announced that they would no longer allow users under 18 to engage in open chat with chatbots.
- We called out platforms that put kids at risk: ParentsTogether Action and UltraViolet staged a first-of-its-kind virtual protest inside Roblox and delivered a digital petition, signed by more than 12,000 people, demanding the platform adopt stronger child-safety measures. Roblox responded by announcing the release of a new age verification tool that will keep children from being allowed to chat with adult strangers.
- We expanded our community: ParentsTogether became the new home of The Parents’ Network, a trauma-informed community for families who have been severely harmed by social media and AI, offering peer-led support spaces, a monthly, large group community space, and specialized affinity groups.
- We developed tools to keep kids safe: ParentsTogether worked as part of a coalition of 20 organizations from across the country to help launch #MyFriendToo US, a first-of-its-kind website, designed specifically to provide age-appropriate, supportive guidance to children as they help their friends disclose sexual abuse to a safe adult.
- We stood together in solidarity: ParentsTogether, Heat Initiative, Design It For Us, and over 45 families who have lost kids because of social media harms were joined by hundreds of others to hold a vigil outside the Meta office in New York, to honor the memory of their kids and demand action and accountability from the company.
None of these victories would have happened without you—so to say thank you for being here, and helping us make these huge advancements for kids and families, we have some gifts for you! We hope they help make your New Year even brighter.
