With all the recent FDA layoffs and inspection cuts, it’s harder than ever to monitor food safety issues. Consumers can find up-to-date recall information on Recalls.gov, but it can be daunting to wade through all of the information.
Recalls occur when manufacturers or distributors become aware of a safety risk, defect, or otherwise faulty aspect of one of their products. Many recalls are voluntary, but when the FDA considers a product to be in violation of regulations or safety laws, they can order a business to remove the defective products currently on the market and correct any future products.
